Using Web 2.0 to Support Learning in the Social Studies Context
Abstract: One of the unique characteristics of social studies is that it enables experiences that both reflect and represent democratic life. In much the same way emerging Web 2.0 technologies also enable experiences that reflect represent democratic life. The similarities between the nature of social studies and the functions of Web 2.0 technologies are not just coincidental, but suggest a rationale for making deliberate efforts to use Web 2.0 technologies in social studies. We believe that using Web 2.0 technologies in social studies could be as important and central for social studies as the calculator is in mathematics classes or as a composition book might be in an English class. The following presentation will provide in-depth overview of a social studies project embedded within Web 2.0 technologies.
