Abstract: This paper discusses online evaluation of teaching in the U.S. higher education system from three perspectives. First, it emphasizes the importance of the evaluation of faculty teaching, i.e., it is a ubiquitous rite on every university campus throughout the United States. Yet, since institutional learning is going through some major changes due to the impact of technology, a shift to online evaluation is a likely replacement of the traditional paper evaluation. Second, it examines the current practices of online evaluation of faculty teaching by analyzing the advantages and disadvantages and points out that, with continued research and development to improve the new systems, comes the promise of more flexibility and easy access for both faculty and students to solve existing problems. Third, to deal with the disadvantages of online evaluation, suggestions for future improvement are provided.
