Abstract: Students in non-majors science course at a liberal arts college participated in a science laboratory learning environment that utilized on-line discussion boards for data posting and discussion of results following experimentation using simulations. The treatment group used the ‘predict-observe-explain’ instructional strategy to organize their learning with the simulation and resulting discussion. The difference between the treatment and control groups understanding of photosynthesis concepts was significantly different.
