Preservice Elementary Teachers’ Experience with The Math Forum’s Virtual Fieldwork Sequence in a Mathematics Methods Course

Abstract: Preservice elementary teachers enrolled in a senior level undergraduate mathematics methods course participated in The Math Forum’s Virtual Fieldwork Sequence (VFS) as a preparation to mentor upper elementary students in the Math Forum at Drexel’s Math Fundamentals Problem of the Week. The Preservice elementary teachers worked through three online modules before mentoring the elementary students. This paper discusses the experience the university supervisor of the preservice elementary students had implementing the VFS in the elementary mathematics methods course and the reactions of the preservice elementary teachers.
