Abstract: The infusion of online education has brought about significant changes within the traditional, brick-and-mortar schoolhouse. With an increasing number of students enrolling in online courses, the need for qualified teachers becomes a necessity. This need has placed administrators in the delicate position of identifying quality online educators to meet the needs of the students in his/her care. Using Stronge & Hindman’s hiring instrument, The Teacher Quality Index: A Protocol for Teacher Selection, as the foundational tool, and the addition of specified online qualities, an online teacher hiring rubric was created. Currently in the data collection stage, the goal of this study is to answer the following: How does the use of a hiring rubric predict the effectiveness of online instructors in a high school setting?
