Abstract: In the summer semesters of 2008 and 2009, one of the authors taught four literacy assessment courses. As a course requirement, each university student worked with a child to assess their literacy skills and provide tutoring in areas of relative weakness. In the summer of 2009, the author also taught two online graduate courses in which the graduate students also had to select a child in grades 1-10, assess them, and provide tutoring. All students were required to write a case study detailing their experiences. This qualitative study seeks to examine the types of technology and the way it was used in the tutoring sessions as well as to determine if there are differences in the way technology is used between the undergraduates and graduate students. Findings could enhance the instruction and support provided to preservice teachers in the technology course as well as the undergraduate literacy assessment course.
