Technology Integration for the Faculty of Pre-service Teachers: A Professional Learning Community Approach to Preparing 21st Century Teachers
Abstract: In an undergraduate pre-service teacher program, students are immersed in a "block" of coursework and practicum experience with an interdisciplinary approach to technology integration. However, one semester is not enough. This paper describes the professional development process of a team of faculty and field service supervisors over a three-year period to incorporate technology integration into the entire four-year experience of the future 21st century teachers. A Professional Learning Community was established, three one-day seminars were held each year with a "just-in-time" approach to teaching technology, and a wiki was created to serve as a repository for resources and as documentation of the learning process. The professional development was successful in its intended goal and the rewards exceeded the expectations.
