Share Paper: Teacher Metacognition and Structure of Knowledge Through Metacognitive Tools

Abstract: This study is report on the use of two metacognitive tools to help teachers understand and describe their knowledge construction process within a research methods course. Concept mapping and Vee diagramming were the two metacognitive tools teachers were modeled to use in the design, implementation, and conclusion phases of their research studies. Although the tools did not present themselves to be technically challenging to learn and apply, the process of creating these cognitive maps led teachers to think about their practice in relation to theories concepts, and constructs.
