Abstract: This study explores the use of asynchronous discussion boards in encouraging graduate teacher education candidates to explore the issues experienced by first year teachers. Candidates worked through three weeks of case study prompts designed to build on the narrative of a first year teacher’s introduction to classroom. The prompts were designed to familiarize candidates with the vocabulary unique to the education field and to introduce them to the complex decision-making undertaken on a routine basis by classroom teachers.
