Abstract: This study examines how students respond to the violence in a first person shooter game based on historical events, Call of Duty III®, when the game play is part of a mediated learning experience. Without mediation, the killing and life or death events surrounding participation in the war “game” are disconnected from the actual human interactions associated with those events in real war.
