Abstract: Penpal partnerships have been used by teachers of various content areas for many years. Educators can now use technology to organize “keypals” projects (electronic penpal exchanges) for students at all levels. Capitalizing on the potentials of technology, multimedia components can be integrated, allowing learners to exchange visual and audio content with their partners. This paper will give an overview of the literature on penpals and keypals projects in educational settings, describe the classroom exchange that was the focus of this research study, and suggest possible opportunities for similar projects in order to foster student learning.
