Abstract: This paper is to report an exploratory study that examines how social networks can be utilized in foreign language teaching and learning. Qualitative data including interviews, online observations, and students’ responses to open-ended survey questions were collected. Preliminary analysis on the data suggests that there are both advantages and challenges associated with using social network technology in foreign language learning. Students also expressed concerns about privacy issues. Additional findings from more in-depth analysis will be shared at the conference.
