Abstract: To introduce a story and provide a good model of reading fluency, teachers commonly use the CD that accompanies the basal reading series. This CD is an audio version of the basal story recited by a professional reader. While the CD is an excellent model of reading, young learners squirm in their seats, play with items within their desks, daydream, or have their books open to the wrong page in the basal reader.
