Abstract: Learners of a French 101 in Haiti have experienced 13 years of traditional teaching where their needs and abilities have never been taken into account by instructors. By using the instructional design principles of the ADDIE model, learners' needs were taken into account both in terms of topics to be covered or the pace of the course. Learning became an interactive experience. The new design of the course created a group of learners who were motivated and engaged during instructional time.
