Abstract: In the ‘knowledge society’ learners’ needs for knowledge, skills and competencies are changing and different learning opportunities are available. This symposium aims to explore the nature of new pedagogy incorporating ICT that is required to enable learning in these developing scenarios. Furthermore the symposium aims to examine the implications of these changes in pedagogy for: teachers’ professional knowledge and competencies; changing roles of teachers and students and teacher education programmes and to present examples of how these challenges may be met.
