Abstract: There is an increased interest in game-based learning in education. Electronic games have a number of affordances of interest including the potential of games to enable formative assessment. Yet implementation of an educational game in a K-12 classroom can be daunting. Managing student accounts, configuring the game settings, planning lessons, and providing formative evaluation can be challenging for teachers. Providing a mechanism for managing the complexity of integrating an educational game in the classroom might increase its effectiveness and facilitate further adoption of educational games in K-12 education.
