Abstract: In order to prepare today’s students to be competitive in their world, instructional methods must change. Traditional teaching strategies can no longer be relied upon. . Pre-service teachers must be taught to incorporate technology into their teaching in regular classrooms and to modify their curricula by infusing appropriate technology to enhance student learning. An Elementary Social Studies Methods (pre k- grade 6) course was redesigned to incorporate interactive technology to enhance the instruction and to engage the students in meaningful ways. These assignments demonstrate how the redesign of this Social Studies course engaged students in ways that were much more meaningful than those using traditional instructional strategies. This presentation will present the steps used in creating these assignments, the challenges, the mistakes, and present the student products and lessons learned from each of these assignments.
