Abstract: This paper is a description of the work-in-progress for a proposed research study that aims at establishing a broad intercultural framework of teaching methodologies and student learning outcomes for constructing instructional environments at universities in the US and in Japan conducive to developing intercultural communicative competence (ICC) using computer mediated communication technology for foreign language learning (CMCL).
