Abstract: As the popularity of social networks has soared, teachers and professors have repurposed such tools to support classroom objectives. While social networks, such as Twitter, can support conversation and collaboration in the classroom, to what extent can these tools also support content area learning? Can social networks and related applications be creatively repurposed by educators to become viable content-focused learning tools? In this paper, we examine the potential of the social networking site Twitter to serve as a dynamic tool of content knowledge development in the undergraduate and graduate classroom with pre- and in-service teachers.
