Teacher candidates in an Early Childhood Education program have been teaching a LEGO Education WeDo curriculum to children in a technology program on two Saturday mornings. Children built and programmed 3D models and created a digital story using the models as props. Although it was an enjoyable experience for the children, focusing on LEGO Education WeDo alone for two consecutive mornings was long for some young children, especially for those who are not particularly fascinated with LEGO. We decided to adopt the interdisciplinary thematic unit approach to designing the curriculum so that we have shorter but connected activities that match the shorter attention span of young children. We will present the design of the thematic unit implemented in the pedagogical laboratory. First, we will describe how teacher candidates participated in designing the lessons in the unit. Then we will present the activities in the unit. Finally, we will share the lessons learned from the experience.
