Abstract: In this study education students accessed Second Life (SL), a three-dimensional virtual community, to meet language learners from Lingnan University in Hong Kong. They had no experience with SL prior to being introduced to it in this course. The present study investigated the hypothesis that SL experience would enhance the computer self-efficacy of pre-service teachers which can motivate them to apply more technology in their future classes. Computer self-efficacy was assessed by a survey based on Bandura’s (2006) guidelines and administered before and after a two-month-long Second Life experience.
