Share Paper: Design Principles for Making Meaningful Mathematics Apps

Abstract: We have developed a series of free iOS Apps to support children in learning mathematics concepts and procedures through play and exploration. Through the development process, several design principles were identified and refined including: a) keep it simple (interface and focus), b) provide meaningful models and/or manipulatives to support sense-making, c) support individual needs, and d) support parents, teachers, tutors and researchers.
