Abstract: One of the most difficult aspects of education reform involves organizational culture and the willingness to embrace new ideas. This paper highlights development of a comprehensive project charter, which involved multiple school district stakeholders and utilized components of project management procedures to integrate GIS into the K-12 curriculum. The model provided within this paper outlines the steps taken to integrate GIS into the K-12 classroom. The benefits of GIS for K-12 students are discussed as well as results from a quantitative study which compared grades between students who received GIS instruction and those who did not.
