Abstract: Bringing engineering design concepts and related math content into the elementary classroom has become possible with the introduction of the Classroom FabLab. Based on the work of Neil Gershenfeld, the Classroom FabLab is scaled down from Gershenfeld’s original product and fabricates materials such as paper, cardstock, and vinyl instead of metal and wood. Through an NSF ITEST grant, Elementary teachers and their students use the Classroom FabLab to develop crucial skills and concepts and encourage interest in STEM related careers.
