Abstract: Abstract: A constructivist model posits that learners create an active role in learning as they connect with previous assimilated knowledge and construct new knowledge opposed to merely "absorbing” information. There is an increasing body of research that supports that constructivist principles arefundamental components of learning in a virtual learning environment (VRLE). In this paper constructivist theories are reviewed as a foundation for five learning strategies proposed for an instructional designer to analyze how a constructivist approach can be employed in developing VRLE instruction.
