Abstract: Providing authentic contexts for English learners is one of the important issues in ESL area for a long time. The activities in English textbooks used in classrooms do not go beyond the drill-and-practice exercises. With the improvement of new technologies, project-based learning is gaining popularity by addressing the needs of ESL learners. ‘What`s Happening on Campus?’ is technology-assisted project-based learning unit that is designed for advanced-level English learners who are enrolled in Intensive English Orientation Program at Iowa State University. During this project, students design their own online newspaper working collaboratively to inform new students about the current issues on campus. At the end, they present their class newspaper to a real audience which will include international students, other IEOP students and administration.
