Abstract: Although today's students are massive consumers of visual media, they are not necessarily visually literate. The digital storytelling production process requires an understanding of how to "read" and "write" with visuals, music, and dialogue. The more information students have about the technical and story elements of filmmaking, the more deeply she is able to "read" and "write" with visuals. This interactive session brings life to the term visual literacy by engaging participants in guided discussion of several short films.
