Content Analysis of Discussion Postings of Nontraditional Students
Abstract: There continues to be an expansive trend in the offering of online components in higher education courses. Non-traditional students report that online coursework is convenient in terms of travel time their schedules, and their varied family and career roles. Often however it seems that there are few studies that investigate whether online components of class work actually contribute more than convenience for students. The purpose of this poster is to present the results of an analysis critical thinking skills, social engagement skills, as well as communication skills demonstrated by groups of non-traditional students in discussion forum postings.
