Share Paper: Student Engagement: More than Adding Technology to Learning
Abstract: The Alberta Education One-to-One Laptop Learning Project was a three-year initiative designed to investigate the efficacy of laptops for teaching and learning in the 21st century. The 20 jurisdictions involved in the project focused on a common set of 21st century skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, global awareness, communications, and technology (ICT). The study monitored the jurisdictional and provincial readiness for systemically advancing 21st century learning and effective uses of technology in the classroom. Findings from trend data suggest that students participating in a one-to-one laptop initiative demonstrated an overall increase in engagement.
