Abstract: This study examines three different instructional approaches used within a multimedia-based learning environment and the impact each have on student learning. This study answered the question, to what extent do different instruction approaches influence student declarative knowledge when assessed on multiple performance measures? Three instructional approaches (directed instruction, structured problem solving, and minimal guidance) were analyzed in this study. No one instructional strategy produced higher mean scores for both the selected-response and written response tests.
