Abstract: The buzzwords of 21st century teaching and learning—words like knowledge building, problem solving, and collaboration—are easy to talk about but much more difficult to implement. This paper introduces a method for the analysis of the learning activities that teachers assign to students and the work products that students submit in response, using specific definitions and rubrics to help teachers discern the degree to which the work they ask students to do offers opportunities to build these skills.
