Abstract: Technological literacy is a necessity for nurses of the 21st century.Accessing information quickly, problem solving, and caring for acutely ill patients is expected in the healthcare environment. Technological literacy was defined in this study to include three primary learning constructs: promoting cognitive (problem solving), affective (decreased anxiety, increased confidence),and behavioral skills (accessing and manipulating information/resources) to improve patient care. The implications for student learning and faculty development are discussed.Faculty can empower students to become adept at using mobile technology by using devices in the classroom and clinical setting, preparing students for a complex role in the ever changing healthcare delivery system.
