Share Paper: Using Wikis with Pre-Service Teachers to Promote Collaborative Practice and Contextual Analysis

Abstract: This study examines a collaborative wiki project conducted by teacher educators across two geographically and culturally diverse sites. Participants included pre-service teachers implementing a digital language experience approach project with elementary learners. While in the digital writing project, they collaborated across sites building joint wikis examining their process and product. The wikis were intended to support candidates’ critical thinking about instructional contexts and instructional pedagogy. Results indicate that the use of wikis for peer feedback did promote collaboration, critical thinking around student characteristics, and critical thinking around literacy-based pedagogical strategies.
