Peer-Supported Online Homework Assistance
Abstract: This case study reports the success story of a peer-supported online homework assistance for public high school students. The goal of this project is to provide students the opportunity to problem solve questions about their homework as a community. It provides students an alternative venue to seek home work assistance and encourages peer collaboration to solve homework related issues as independent learners. As public high school teachers tend to be overscheduled and teach multiple classes, this peer-supported online homework assistance also releases the teacher’s burden to answer many students’ questions with regard to their homework, especially those that students can solve among themselves. This paper will discuss the instructional design and instructional technology employed for this project as well as its potential to scaffold learning in high school environment.
