Title Utilizing class books for hearing impaired children’s literacy

Abstract: Book production develops children’s interest in books, reading, and comprehension on relationship between written and oral language. Class books are long remembered and rather special to children. Book production also teaches children to evaluate text which is a key concept in literacy instruction. It is well known that hearing impaired children evolve through the very same lingual development process with hearing children. However hearing impaired children’s language and literacy skills development pace lack behind their hearing counterparts. Class book production is one of the promising in-class activities for supporting hearing and hearing impaired children’s language development. In this paper, importance of class book production, materials used in class book production, class book production guidelines and class book examples will be presented. Further information about utilizing class books in hearing impaired children’s literacy instruction will also be presented
