Teaching Literacy for Civic Understanding in an On-Line Format

Abstract: The session highlights the goals, design, and student experiences of an on-line teacher education graduate course integrating critical literacy and critical citizenship education situated within a multimodal communication theoretical frame. Utilizing technology-based elements in the course design and student products, we discuss the four-interelated course goals of empowerment, integration of literacy and citizenship education, peer engagement, and theory into practice.
