Abstract: There are a number of technologies available to teachers and students that support development of 21st century and workforce readiness skills. One emerging technology is stereoscopic 3D. Initial research on the use of 3D technology in teaching and learning indicates that test scores increase and retention of information is enhanced. To build on this initial research further study of the integration of 3D technology is being conducted in an elementary, middle, and high school classroom. The pilot year of the two year study resulted in findings relative to the impact of 3D technology on student academic achievement, retention of content knowledge, and student engagement. The second year of the study is attempting to isolate 3D technology from other variables that may also impact student achievement. The focus is on middle and high school science units supplemented with 3D technology along with assessment measures that include building models, reflective writing, and narrative demonstration of learning.
