Perspectives of Video Games as Learning Tools

Abstract: Ongoing research examining preservice teachers' perceptions of the educational value of a set of researcher selected videogames for meeting teaching and learning goals in K-12 classrooms will be presented. Nintendo® Wii™ game system and the Sony Play Station® game system were used with preservice teachers enrolled in technology education courses at one university. Emergent categories of usefulness identified from the written comments will be presented, along with frequencies of agreement/disagreement on survey items. Results analyzed pre and post will be presented as well. Games used in the research will be identified along with linkage to knowledge, skill, and dispositional standards.
