Abstract: Digital natives use virtual learning communities on a daily basis, logging into Facebook to participate in discussion boards and chat with friends, entering book reviews on Librarything, drafting a new entry for a blog, and updating their status on Twitter. Each of these activities requires language arts skills. During this poster presentation, a brief overview of research will be provided while showcasing methods in which professors, teachers, students and school librarians are utilizing virtual learning communities and a wide variety of social media to enhance literacy instruction and motivate learners.
