Abstract: This paper is a report on the use of Adobe Connect with Rural Appalachian students in an Upward Bound program. Selected students who participate in the Federal government sponsored program Upward Bound; need to have a ubiquitous learning environment that would allow them access to valuable resources and mentors via the internet at their convenience. The challenge of providing students with a ubiquitous learning environment, while living in rural Appalachia is an issue that affects many students in the Appalachian region. The preliminary study looks at the usability of Adobe Connect as the media that will assist the Upward Bound program in reaching rural Appalachian students. A secondary study will be conducted with students in the Upward Bound program addressing issues related to network availability, broadband issues and usability from the students stand point as well as the Upward Bound program.
