Examining Technology Integration in Mathematics and Science Teacher Preparation Academies
Abstract: The present study examines the technology integration by mathematics and science teacher preparation academies across the state of Texas. The purpose of these academies was to prepare more highly qualified mathematics and science teachers, as well as to improve the quality of certified teachers. To accomplish this goal, the academies were charged with seven goals, one of which was to infuse technology into academy curriculum (THECB 2009). Of the 14 establish academies, only three received the highest rating for technology integration. The current study examines best practices for technology integration utilized by these academies. Findings from the present study support research related to assisting teachers to effectively incorporate technology into their classrooms. These academies modeled to their participants how to effectively utilize technology in the classroom in order to enhance student learning.
