Middle School Carbon Footprint Project
Abstract: The Middle School Carbon Footprint Project was an eight-month project involving 270 middle school students in which students learned about the causes and effects of global warming and the impacts humans have on the process. This culminated into community and school-based investigations of environmental issues, with science-fair projects completed by students. Students took data from their investigations and used it to inform and persuade various community, school, and business organizations to reduce their carbon footprints through small changes. Student learning of the environmental objectives established by the project was assessed to determine if students participating in the project exhibited increased learning as compared to students not participating in the program.
