Abstract: Mobile devices have the potential to provide opportunities for self-paced, conceptually-focused challenges as well as to support motivation, scaffolding, discussion, accommodation and assessment. In this presentation we explore practical strategies, developed as part of outreach efforts in local schools, for using existing iOS (iPod/iPad) apps to introduce curricular concepts, engage students in discussions and then provide students with opportunities for consolidation and fluency building based on understanding of foundational mathematical concepts rather than simply procedural mastery.
