Abstract: We know games help students gain skills and insights in many ways, and that games are engaging. With new online MMOPRPG games, like Minecraft, what we do not know is what draws teachers and/or students to wanting to use this game in educational ways, but not as gamification or edutainment. This paper presents a case study of one English teacher – how he engaged his students with Minecraft and how the students did or did not engage back.
