Abstract: Free resources, cutting-edge learning strategies and a unique online course planning tool will all be showcased during this interactive workshop. Attendees will explore the Faculty eCommons. The Commons is a FREE social learning community available to faculty around the world. The concept and offering of “micro-moocs” will also be introduced. “Micro-moocs” are mini versions of a massive open online course (mooc) that brings new ideas and educational concepts to learners across the globe. Finally, a unique, interactive, easy to use, design application will be unveiled. The “Content Blueprinting Tool” is a brand new, customizable, interactive tool that will be demonstrated and offered as a FREE take away to all attendees.

Objectives

Attendees will be able to identify and locate hundreds of resources pertaining to effective online teaching and learning. Attendees will be able to locate and navigate the faculty eCommons. Attendees will become familiar with the Sloan Consortium. Attendees will be able to list best practices for designing and implementing an online course. Attendees will be able to list best practices for designing and implementing an online program. Attendees will explore research and locate numerous professional development opportunities located both face to face all over the world as well as virtual offerings pertaining to online learning and various areas. Attendees will be able to list the steps and apply for a membership to the Sloan Consortium. Attendees will be able to review national quality standards to assist faculty in preparation and evaluation of their online courses and programs. Attendees will be able to define a micro mooc. Attendees will be able to locate and sign up for various moocs pertaining to various hot topics in the area of distance education. Attendees will be able to locate past micro moocs and review them online. Attendees will be able to explain why moocs are important in the area of professional development in higher education. Attendees will be able to explain the Content Blueprinting Tool. Attendees will be able to download Content Blueprinting Tool. Attendees will be able to explore the Content Blueprinting Tool. Attendees will be able to utilize the Content Blueprinting Tool to start to design their own online course. Attendees will be able to network with other faculty and staff in the field of distance education all over the world through various tools that will be introduced in this workshop.

Prerequisites

All levels of experience in online teaching and learning are welcome in this interactive workshop. Prerequisites include: * Interest in unique, cutting edge, easy to use FREE tools and resources pertaining to distance education. * A positive attitude * Willingness to participate and share experiences

Qualifications

Whitney Kilgore is the Vice President of Learning Technologies at Academic Partnerships. Ms. Kilgore provides expertise in learning management systems and other academic technologies to our partner institutions. Her department creates program prototypes in each learning management system, develops program specific orientation courses for students, and works closely with the Academic Services team in program development. Prior to joining Academic Partnerships, Whitney worked as the Director of Academic Technology at the College of Southern Nevada. In this role, she was responsible for the online learning management systems including the student and faculty support of online learning. Under her direction, the online campus grew to be the largest of four campuses in the Las Vegas valley. She was also a consultant for SunGard Higher Education in Academic Services where she led online program development, course migration efforts, faculty training, and provided strategic consulting to client institutions. Ms. Kilgore has more than 10 years of experience in educational technology leadership, has been an adjunct faculty member, and has made numerous presentations around the country on topics such as: Building Retention into Online Programs, Transition to Hybrid/Online Learning, 7 Things You Should Know About Web 2.0 Tools, and Engaging Millennials with Mobile Technology. She is a member of the Sloan Consortium, Educause, and is a Quality Matters certified peer reviewer. She received a post-graduate certificate in Educational Technology Leadership from George Washington University, and holds a M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A & M Corpus Christi. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Educational Computing at the University of North Texas.
