Abstract: This study focuses on the effect that mobile device integration in classrooms has on student focus and achievement. Studies point to a distinction between multitasking and what has been termed as “simultaneous partial attention,” that is, the act of paying minimal simultaneous attention to many sources of information. The goal is to understand this distinction to effectively design instructional activities that integrate mobile devices in a productive way that engages students and fosters academic achievement rather than becoming a distraction.
