Abstract: A disconnect exists between the environment we are teaching our students in and the environment students could benefit from. Through a targeted use of technology we can expand the classroom by facilitating remote learning and exploration, ultimately enriching our student’s experience. By incorporating tablets in our teaching we can increase our effectiveness and improve student learning outcomes. Specific examples of the use of free interactive educational apps, a screen reader, support for playback of closed-captioned content and other innovative universal access features to learning, and convenient ways to collaborate will be presented. Discussion will center on the potential of teacher education programs to model dynamic differentiated instruction in K-12 settings.
