Abstract: Abstract: What are useful best ways to approaching emotionally difficult topics? This article provides a brief review of current curricular problems with teaching genocide and discusses the potential of blending traditional content with visuals and digital games to support student understanding of complex and emotionally challenging topics. Using these tools, students can supplement discussions and develop their own perspectives about tragic events as if they are reporters. A section on reparations and transitional justice suggests some positive ways to conclude such a unit.
