Abstract: Online graduate level courses in education often require internships for the learners. The required hours for the internship apply to those seeking a teaching license or administrator certification. Students are often required to have a licensed, certified mentor on site as part of the internship. The mentor and university instructor/supervisor work together to assess and evaluate the student’s internship. However, when the student is earning a degree online, the online university instructor does not make a site visit to meet with the internship mentor as with traditional brick and mortar colleges. Therefore, in order to build a true partnership between the instructor and site mentor, communication, collaboration, and evaluation ideas and strategies must be in place. Participants in this best practice presentation will gain insight, knowledge, and understanding on how to have a successful, virtual instructor/mentor relationship. The presenters will share ideas on how to use technology such as Skype, and webcams to hold conferences with the ground site supervisors.
