Abstract: The rapid growth of the English language learners (ELLs) in schools is one of the national trends in education. Technology is more and more widely used in classrooms today. To combine these two trends, this paper discusses improving learning of ELLs by examining how to increase second language (L2) knowledge and teaching strategies for teachers and integrating technology in teaching to better work with ELLs. First, the background information is provided on the growing trend of the ELL school enrollment. Second, it discusses several strategies of working with ELLs. They are: increasing comprehensibility, encouraging interaction, making learning authentic and creating a positive learning environment. Each is discussed with integration of technology and supported by L2 theories. The paper concludes with discussion that urges teachers to acknowledge the two trends and adapt teaching by taking the advantage that technology offers to meet the needs of the ELLs and all students.
